Continuing where we left off with our previous article on Let’s Talk Fiber to the Home (FTTH): With new technologies and services new questions invariably arise, hence we answer some queries below:

How long will it take to bring fiber to my area?
Once a decision is taken to commission fiber in an area, MTC requires permission and notifies the local authorities. Simultaneously we will notify all residences in and around the suburb in writing. Once we start with street-level trenching, depending on the project, we can start connecting customers within 30 to 60 days.
Be on the lookout for MTC’s yellow fiber pipes being installed in various suburbs around Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.

Where do I apply once I notice fiber activity in my neighbourhood?
MTC’s contractors are clearly identified and work closely with our sales teams that regularly patrol the areas. Simply stop at a contractor and ask for a business card or contact details of a sales agent. Also be on the lookout for our fiber activation session that usually takes place over a weekend for ease of convenience. Our sales team will arrange an appointment for you to apply and ask all questions in the comfort of your home.

How and when is my service installed?
After placing your order and once your application has been approved, an MTC-appointed contractor will contact you to plan your home pass. Simply put this is the sleeve that will take the fiber from the street to your living room. Depending on your yard infrastructure, this process should take no longer than 5 working days. Always remember MTC is committed to full rehabilitation of the area where we trench and prepare the area for fiber.
