Come to the woods for here is rest*

Come to the woods for here is rest*

We can all do with a little more time in nature. Lucky for us then, ‘biophilic design’ is a top trend this year. (From bio-, meaning “life,” and -philia, meaning “friendly feeling toward”). This design style brings nature indoors, allowing us to reconnect in the comfort of our homes. And we’re in even more luck, because eco-homes are also naturally biophilic so we’re doubling up on trends this year.
Think features of the natural world which include sunshine, animals, trees and grasslands. Use these in your artwork or colours including fabulous focal walls with wallpaper that is textured to remind of wood, or savannahs. Stick to natural lines, shapes and forms. This includes rocks and mined stones such as marble, granite and pebble tiles. Recreate natural patterns by placing natural objects which repeat form, texture, colour or lines, encouraging the eye to move from one object to another.
Make use of both Megabuild and Spectiles’ incredible range of natural elements including tiles, fabrics and more, to intersperse your living space with naturals. Wooden or basket planters for plants, woven scatter cushions, animal prints and artwork that reflects nature, animals, plants and flowers.

In terms of plants, use actual plants, art of plants or plant hues. The same goes for stones and rocks, as well as wood. Textures, hues or the real thing will bump up the natural feel of your space. Use as much natural light as possible, fusing the interior with the exterior. Moving on to eco-conscious homes, Megabuild has the whole deal. From low-flow showerheads and taps, to solar lighting op-
tions, green appliances, insulation options, water-friendly gardens, plumbing options to reroute grey water to your garden or loo, paving and planters to bring natural elements not only to your garden, but your patio and indoors, and more. Eco-homes this year are harmonious with nature but still super-chic, so simply let your creative juices run.
On to colour. According to the experts the 2023 colour of the year is a blend of grey and beige with subtle red undertones that pair well with trending earth-tone paint colours. The colours are richer than those of 2022 but they are still natural with warm undertones. Some predictions include warm yellows that tend more towards darker, golden hues. Reds, oranges, greens and blush colours are the new cool.

Whether you slap paint on a wall, redo the sofa, or pick indoor plants and planters with matching flower colours, it’s up to you! And if this all feels a little much, merely add some scatter cushions, ornaments or a throw on the couch, just for starters. Pop by, our teams at Megabuild and Spectiles are ready to inspire!
