Decorate your outdoor space for Christmas
Decorate your outdoor space for Christmas
Decorate your outdoor space with Christmas cheer this year whilst keeping our theme Outdoor Living in mind. How to decorate your outdoor space? Here are a few tips!
1. Plan Your Theme
Will you choose the traditional red and green just like I did here? Or will you go for the frosty white or rustic Christmas or even the “local Namibian” Christmas with some indigenous grasses or succulents as decorations? (See Garden Focus in this issue for great tips and ideas).
2. Illuminate with Lights
Christmas lights are essential. Use string lights to outline the roof, windows, and doors of your house. I used ceiling lights with a Christmas theme to hang above my dining table and seating area.
Consider using LED lights as they are energy-efficient and come in various colours and shapes.
And, of course, candles are as important as the food on the table – here you can also play with thousands of ideas.
3. Create a Cozy Seating Area
If you have a porch or patio, brighten your outdoor furniture with holiday-themed cushions and blankets for a cosy ambiance.
4. Add Outdoor Ornaments
Hang Christmas ornaments on the walls, place them on the main table, side tables or hang something on the chairs. Here you can see my Christmas stockings on the wall hooks.
5. Don't Forget the Floor
Place a Christmas tree or Christmas art-pieces and gifts on the floor.
6. Consider Safety
Use outdoor-rated extension cords and lights to ensure safety. Anchor decorations securely to prevent them from getting blown away by the wind. And be careful with flames and fire with any outdoor event. Safety first!
