Give an old vintage suitcase new life
Give an old vintage suitcase new life
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Vintage suitcase
- Paintbrushes in various sizes
- Mod Podge
- Chalk paint – 2 colours
- Glazecoat
- Fabric decoupage sheet

STEP 1: PAINT THE SUITCASE
Cover the entire suitcase with 2 layers of chalk paint. Use a smaller brush to paint around the hardware. Remember to paint the bottom too!

STEP 2: DRYBRUSH EDGES
Use the lighter colour chalk paint and drybrush the edges of the suitcase for added dimension.

STEP 3: MARK OUT OUTLINES
Mark the centre and outlines of the area where you want to place the design. Make a small centre crease on the decoupage sheet for easy placement.

STEP 4: APPLY MOD PODGE
Apply a generous amount of mod podge on the area where the design should be.

STEP 5: PLACE DESIGN
Place your design and smooth out any creases from the inside towards the edges.
Allow the mod podge to dry completely.
If necessary, use a craft knife or scissors to cut off any excess.

STEP 6: BLEND THE EDGES
Optional: Blend the edges of the design using a small paint brush with the same paint colour used on the suitcase.

STEP 7: COVER WITH TOPCOAT
Cover the entire suitcase with a topcoat of Glazecoat and let dry completely.

FINAL
Enjoy your new suitcase – either as a picnic basket or as storage to keep your favourite blankets handy for those rainy, summer days.
