Pick up a Book and Learn

From mid-December to mid-January is shutdown time for most people, even if only over the Christmas-New Year week. And what's more fun than lying with a book in hand on the beach or dangling in the farm’s hammock?

The Cambridge University Dictionary defines a book as an object consisting of a number of pages of text or pictures fastened together along one edge and fixed inside two covers.

That’s official, but books are a lot more fascinating: They provide us with new perspectives and ideas – perhaps making us consider something we've never tried before. If you would like to learn to crochet or do macramé, there are so many books available featuring vintage skills – and what could be more fun than becoming skilled in something that grandma used to do so well?

The many benefits of reading books are known to most of us. Don't lag behind, pick up a book and learn from others – there's no need for you to make the same mistakes that many people made before you.

Our Theme: Texture with Books

The Gutenberg Bible, the world’s oldest mechanically printed book, became available in 1455 AD. Printed in Latin, this set the scene for lay people to read the Bible themselves. Martin Luther later translated it to German (1522-1545) which helped fuel the Reformation. In England in 1560, the Geneva Bible helped foster Scripture literacy among the commoners and offered for the first time “study resources” to make the Bible easier to understand.
