Safety First

Safety First

Liewe Leser

Eerder veilig wees as spyt wees.
Soos die spreekwoord lui: “Rather safe than sorry.”

Wees gegroet.

Dear Reader

None of us enjoy having to glance over our shoulders at possible threats. But the reality is that we live in circumstances where our homes definitely need to be secured. If we want a peaceful night’s sleep, everything should be under lock and key. Safety first!

According to Wikipedia, safety is a state of feeling that nothing untoward will happen. It refers to the absence of danger and the presence of protective measures against risky situations.
Dangerous circumstances can these days also involve threats to our lives. For that reason, we urgently need security guards, cameras and alarm systems. Rather be prepared than caught off-guard. Hindsight will not help much. So, if you want to set your mind at ease, do contact any of our advertisers in the field of security – they know their stuff. This month, on the theme page, Christine peruses safety and security statistics in Namibia.
March will, of course, be incomplete without our Independence Day. Let us take hands and examine how we may ensure that Namibia is not merely a place to live, but rather a safe home for all. As the saying goes: Rather safe than sorry.

Look after yourselves.

KEEP IN MIND:
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” (Psalm 91:4) (NIV).

Last, to the chamber where I lie.
My fearful footsteps patter nigh,
And come from out the cold and gloom
Into my warm and cheerful room.
There, safe arrived, we turn about
To keep the coming shadows out,
And close the happy door at last
On all the perils that we passed.
Then, when mamma goes by to bed,
She shall come in with tip-toe tread,
And see me lying warm and fast
And in the Land of Nod at last.
A section of North-West Passage by Robert Louis Stevenson

From the anthology A Child’s Garden of Verses (1944).
