Make your own concrete rug
Make your own concrete rug with steps by Lindie Loock. It seems that I was born with a paint brush in my hand! I just love how paint gives anything a fresh, new look. And there is no easier way to uplift your entrance way, than with a painted rug!
You will need:
- Enamel paint in your choice of colours
- Paint brush for each colour
- Stencil (optional)
- Protective clothing (apron)
- Concrete base coat (if needed)
- Plastic bags (one for each brush
Step 1
Prepare your surface. If needed, wash it with sugar soap and rinse well. I just gave my walkway a good clean with a pressure wash as there were no oil stains, etc. Let it dry completely. Draw your design on the concrete and mark the colours well, it is very easy to get confused! I just used plain chalk, but if you painted a base coat, use a soft pencil.
Step 2
Start from the centre of your design and paint all the areas. Wrap your brush in the plastic bag when not using it, to prevent it from drying out.
Step 3
Let the first layer dry overnight before giving it a second coat. Remember to put some barricades up if you have pets, you don’t want little paw marks on your wet paint!
Step 4 (a)
Add a design to your rug using a stencil
Step 4 (b)
As my area was not smooth, I used Stencil of Paris from Tjoko Paints to add some texture to my design. I then painted it with a small brush in my colour of choice. Wait at least 24 hours for the paint to dry completely before letting anyone walk on your newly painted rug.
