Marble offers many design choices

Marble offers many design choices

The lovers of beautiful spaces in the early Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures used marble in their architecture, art and design. The word ‘marble’ is a derivative of the Greek ‘marmaros’ meaning “snow white and spotless stone’’, even though there are numerous colour variants.

In modern-day trends, marble has made a comeback to the world of interior design.

However, rather than overwhelming the viewer with large zones of marble, the key is to use it in small doses – accents and statement pieces.

Its versatility includes a broad spectrum of furnishings, lighting, accessories, tableware, interiors, and fashion. Marble imitations can also be found in wallpaper, bedding, stationery, and clothing lines. It perfectly complements other natural materials such as wood and leather, and even steel.

Acknowledging the shift in consumer attitudes towards the merits of buying products that are long-lasting, environmentally-friendly, and sustainable, we at Spectiles can advise you on how to incorporate some beautiful local marble into your space.

Marbelous Tips

Make marble part of your walls or floors:

Beware of marbling both walls and floors - that would be overkill - you need just a touch of classic marble to tie in with more modern materials. Whichever component you pick, there are a variety of ways to execute the design.
Think about adding marble to the backsplash in your kitchen or as an alternative to traditional wainscoting in your bathroom or dining room. Wainscoting is wall panelling on the lower portion of the wall, meant to be both protection and decoration. Or, add less marble to your living space by encircling the room with a marble chair rail.

If you are unsure which marble is available in Namibia, you can visit us at Spectiles to view the unique ranges and to obtain complimentary advice on how to incorporate Namibia’s flagship element into your home.

DIY

If you enjoy DIY projects, another way to use marble is to make your own coffee table for your living room.

At Spectiles we can help you design it and have it specifically cut and worked off accordingly. Or maybe small side tables for your bedroom with sleek gold or black framing depending on your colour theme.

The possibilities are endless when you put your mind to it.

If you are not so handy with a welding machine or woodwork, we can also recommend artisans to produce classic essentials for your home.
