Mother's day competition winner

Round of applause! Carli Loubser of Windhoek is the winner of our Mother’s Day photo competition. She wins a weekend for two valued at N$ 3 600 from Atlantic Villa Boutique Guesthouse, Swakopmund. Also included in the prize is breakfast valued at N$ 350 at Monkey Puzzle Restaurant in Swakopmund.

Her photo is a compilation and very topical in these times we are living in. It caught our eye for this very reason and its great pixel quality was also a bonus. It is a poignant photo depicting lockdown in this Corona-year.



Carli, how did you come to take this interesting photo?

My mom and I have always loved discussing life over a glass of wine, but we are now split up due to state of emergency measures. My mom is in South Africa and currently there is such a huge divide between us. To me this is a snapshot of reality, showing social distancing with masks and all. Thankfully, we are still able to visit daily on video call and catch up on events over a glass of wine.

What do you think is a daughter’s role in ensuring a good mother-daughter relationship?

One needs to remain respectful, yet at the same time put energy, love and time into building a real friendship. Viewing her as a friend to share fun times and deep thoughts with, yet still being respectful of her role as mother – that is important.

What do you think are your mother’s best attributes?

My mom is a helper. She thinks of others first and goes out of her way to help others and smooth things over.
She is the example I hope to follow with my own children one day.

What is your motto in life? What do you strife for?

I believe that even if life is difficult, one must not forget to see the bright side. I love laughing. I talk and laugh and can be quite loud. But if my jokes make others feel better about their day, that’s just great. Laughter is good medicine!
