Natural materials an ongoing trend
Natural materials an ongoing trend
Natural materials are not a new trend by any means; however, it is a strong trend now. The natural materials trend focuses on the use of materials like rattan, bamboo, seagrass, and cork. These materials all have an authenticity that we as human beings find naturally seductive. It is probably something to do with our primal need to feel connected to nature. In our modern society, we rely so heavily on digital representations of life that we risk losing touch with nature. This has been proven to have a detrimental effect on our health and well-being and can probably explain the growing need we feel to surround ourselves with nature at home. We have already seen it in the trend for plants and greenery in our homes and this trend for incorporating more natural materials into our homes is part and parcel of the same movement.
Natural materials and textures help us to create a more holistic and calming environment that helps to improve our well-being. Nature inspired hues such as earthy browns and deep greens help to bring a touch of the outdoors in.
There is also an environmental factor here as these natural materials are also more sustainable and do less damage to our environment. As people become more and more aware of the harm caused by materials like plastic, we are witnessing a strong desire to choose materials that are easy to replenish, recycle and reuse.
Natural material tips:
Using bricks can make a lovely wall accent. You can also see this as a common material for a fireplace too. Meanwhile, stones can be added to any areas of the house and look especially fitting in an indoor garden. Used as decors, either as door stops or as nesting material for succulents, they carry the earthiness inside.Leather could give a sophisticated look to your home because of its smooth and buttery comfort just like what we can get from a leather sofa. Try leather plate covers and frames.
Rattan and cane can usually be seen in woven baskets and in some furniture. They look homely in the bedroom, living room, and kitchen or even in a covered patio. To enhance the neutral tones of rattan and cane furniture, you can always choose a print and colour of your liking for the cushions.
Granite marble and other natural stones are famous choices for countertops, backsplashes, showers, and flooring. These beautiful natural stones come with unique patterns and colours. Aside from that, they are also durable and easy to clean and take care of.
