Step into Autumn

Step into Autumn

Enjoy the last warm days in your garden and evening strolls, soaking up some sun in these sneakers painted in the vibrant colours of autumn.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Fabric paint in autumn colours plus white and black Granny B’s Armour
  • Small paint brushes (flat and round bristles)
  • White canvas shoes
  • Heat gun or hairdryer
  • Old newspaper
  • Plastic apron (you do not want fabric paint on your clothes!)
  • Baby wipes or damp cloth (to clean your hands and work area)

STEP 1

Stuff the inside of shoe with some bundled-up newspaper to keep it firm whilst applying the paint.

STEP 2

Apply a thin layer of the fabric paint on the different panels of the shoes. Alternate between the two shoes to allow some time for the paint to dry a little, before moving onto the next section.

I started on the sides, then the heel and lastly the toe and tongue of each shoe.

STEP 3

Allow 4 – 6 hours to dry before applying a second thin coat.

STEP 4

Using a thin, round brush add some detailed lines in white along the edges of the shoes. It helps to thin the paint with a little bit of water.

Apply 2 – 3 coats of white paint, as it gets lighter when dry.

STEP 5

With a thin brush, add black detailed lines along the edge of the shoe, the soles and eyelets to give a cartoon-drawn effect.

STEP 6

Coil the shoelaces and apply black paint on both sides.

STEP 7

Heat set the fabric paint with a heatgun or hairdryer for 5 minutes, taking care to apply heat evenly on all sides. I repeated this step 3 times.

Let it dry for 24 – 48 hrs depending on weather and humidity.

STEP 8

Apply a thin coat of Granny B’s Armour on the shoes and shoelaces. This will give the paint a water resistant coating and protect it from dirt and cracking.

FINAL

Enjoy some much deserved attention when you step out of your home!
