Think holistically when it comes to pool design
The way we as complex human beings experience a place or design depends on so many different aspects. The information on where we are and what we see, feel, touch, smell etc. is fed to the brain where a decision is made regarding our reaction or emotions.Over the past two years, Lic Pool Centre was fortunate to work with a number of distinguished architects and specialists locally and abroad on the use of pool lights, different elements and water features. As a pool builder, the energy coming off such a planning session was so rewarding. Seeing the end products makes all the hard work even more rewarding.
When planning a multi-sensory experience at the poolside, consider these aspects:
In many pools we use genuine mosaics at the water line of the pool and on the steps. Glass mosaics simply make the appearance of the water five times more beautiful than just a “bucket” filled with water. If the budget is a constraint, we advise just tiling some parts of the pool (like the steps) to showcase the water.

The use of focus lights inside the pool is very important. In many pools we do not use the conventional pool lights, but rather go for high-resolution LED lights.
The placement of these lights is extremely important. If placed too low, the pool floor gets emphasized, too high and half the illumination is lost.
Big lights, small lights, LED strip lights, narrow angle lights or wide angle lights… Just some of the things to think about when it comes to lighting. In addition, what is the colour of the skimmer and light fittings inside the pool? Plain old white or black or have you maybe opted for a custom colour and/or polished stainless steel?

In a water feature, both visuals and sound are combined, stimulating a different ambience. Careful planning will make the difference between so-so and magnificent.
The visual quality of the pool water is immensely important. One can’t just slap on any old filter and pump. If the filtration quality and pump speed are not correct, you will never have clear water, no matter how much acid and chlorine you add.
Carefully consider the effect on one’s senses when you add planter boxes and other items at varying heights around the pool.

You are welcome to pay us a visit at Macadam Street and we can add colour to the pool picture you have in mind.
