Time for some vibrant jewel colours to brighten any room
Time for some vibrant jewel colours to brighten any room
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Wooden board (I used an old bread board)
- Chalk paint
- Foil leaf or flakes in colour of choice (I used rose gold)
- Oil-based clear varnish
- Leafing Size adhesive
- Small hard paint brush
- Small soft paint brush
- Paint brush for base layers
- Hooks

STEP 1: PREP THE BOARD
Sand board lightly to get rid of any varnish or stains (if old/pre-used).
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Apply thin, even coat of paint as you desire.

STEP 2: LAYER SOME COLOURS
Blend in different colours of paint/highlights while paint is still wet.

STEP 3: APPLY LEAFING SIZE
Wait at least 30 minutes for paint to dry completely and apply the Leafing Size with the small hard paint brush, where you want to apply the foil leaf or flakes.

STEP 4: WAIT, THEN APPLY FOIL
Wait 15 - 30 minutes (depending on the weather) for the Leafing Size to get tacky.
Ensure all windows and doors are closed and no fans are running, as the slightest wind will blow the foil everywhere!
It is best to look at an angle to clearly see where you applied the Leafing Size and with the small soft brush, apply pieces of the foil onto the areas where the Leafing Size is painted.
Cover all areas.

STEP 5: WAIT, THEN REMOVE EXCESS
Wait another 20 minutes, then brush off any excess foil with a soft brush.

STEP 6: VARNISH
Cover the foil with oil-based varnish to prevent oxidization. (I covered my whole board with the varnish for a gloss finish).

STEP 7: SCREW IN THE HOOKS
Mark where you want to insert hooks and screw them in.

FINAL VIOLÀ!
Show of your masterpiece!
