Updated room to fit aging twins

THE PROJECT:
Our client is a mom of twins who needs to update their room to reflect the fact that they are no longer preschoolers. She has some specifics in mind.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Design the room for twins of both genders who are 7 years old but refrain from the typical pink and blue look.
• Use the same neutral linen on both beds to fit both a boy and a girl.
• Preferably place the beds next to each other, separated by a bedside table or drawer unit for clothing.
• Olive green and neutrals are a must.
• Storage for toys and LEGO is vital. She loves crates and boxes for an easy clean-up. Would also love some shelving for books.
• The current beds can’t be changed, but a fresh coat of paint to match the interior will spruce them up a bit. All other furniture including curtains can be changed or painted.

SOLUTION:

• A neutral colour scheme with greys and greens has been used to decorate the twin’s room.
• I used the same bedding with a patterned grey and white throw.
• Beds are placed alongside each other with an arch of their preferred colour paint above them. The letters above the beds indicate whose bed is which.
• I added shelves against the wall for books, the wooden crate has been re-purposed, and I bought a new white cabinet for the kids’ folded clothes to be stored in, instead of the baskets.
• The current beds can be painted white.
• I used some material from Hertex (available at Spectiles) to make the curtains: Dozey in Foam is used for the block-out curtains & Dreamland – Vanilla for the voiles.
• From Hertex we also bought the pillowcases for the beds: Sicily Pillowcase set of 2 in Caledon.
• The rug between the two beds is also from Hertex: Jade Outdoor Round Rug in Greenland, 160 cm diameter.

Now the proof is in the pudding: Will the twins give their thumbs-up?
