Bryan Adams wrote a song with the opening line: “Put on your best dress, Darling”. That’s the dress which gives you confidence, makes you stand out from the other guests and adds to making you look elegant and in control.

LIC Pool has been fortunate to work with architects from Windhoek and abroad to bring these glamour pools to Namibia. These gems are more than just a regular swimming pool.

A different kind of blue: Clean water in a pool is normally blue but much can be done to manipulate this colour. Together we spent hours on selecting elements to bring out different colours in the water.

Varying levels of the chosen tiles inside a pool make the water appear diverse at different places within the pool.

The correct pump and filter and penetrating points of return water into the pool make a big difference in adding to the glimmer of the water. The use of different nozzles has the advantage of introducing air into the pool and making the water look different and inviting. By combining various materials inside the pool, diversity is created. Tiling can be combined with mosaic tiles. Glass mosaic tiles shine. The light bounces off these mosaics at different angles and enhances the shine of the pool water.

It is vital to define what the purpose of the pool will be. Lap pools have swimming lanes 25 meters long, but regular pools in town are max 10 meters. It is therefore important to think how you will use the pool. A shallow area for putting sunchairs is always fun, as are bar chairs where guests can sit in the pool and easily join conversation going on at the braai.

Combine cold and hot: Fit the jacuzzi in next to the pool and make it look like a unit. This sounds easy, but do it wrong and you miss the ambiance. Working with a great number of clever architects and designers taught us what is needed to make such a combination work and make people gasp at the concept.
