I often find myself in a mini rat race in Windhoek. So easy to refer to a busy city somewhere far from here, but we seem to forget that we are also very busy ourselves.



In the process of running off to work or whatever routine fills our day, the colder months pass and without realizing it, we’ve reached the warm (hot!) period of the year and this brings some parts of our homes out from their winter sleep. Yes – our beloved patio and pool areas.

The patio area around the pool offers the perfect opportunity to make our lifestyle more pleasant during the warm months. When last did you switch the pool lights on and set the table for a meal or just sit down at the pool area and enjoy something to drink? Popper lights inside the pool makes it stand out during the evening and transforms the smallest of areas into a magic scene.



A simple timer setting ensures that the pool pump will run during the day, as you do not want the sound of a humming pool pump disturbing the scene. A small investment in proper deck chairs, makes it easy to let this area of the home become “a room with a view”. The patio does not need to have a monotone colour. Blue water combined with green grass (natural or artificial) plus the correct colour pool copings makes this area inviting at half the price of a room inside the house. Small focus lights in the garden, no matter how small, work wonders to enhance the ambience of the area.



And yes, let’s re-do the pool copings for you or remove that ugly scum line on the older pools and just these small changes will make a huge difference to the appearance of your pool. A new trend is to cover up the ugly steel/PVC contraption which opens and closes the pool cover.
Bringing the braai area closer to the pool combines cooling down and chilling round the pool with preparing a great steak. This allows all members of the family to be together while enjoying some time away from cell phones and work/study stress.
