Kalahari Farm for Sale

This well-developed cattle and irrigation farm covers approximately 7 909 ha, and is located in the Kalahari, approximately 40 km by road to the southwest of Leonardville and 250 km to the southeast of Windhoek. It is a beautiful Kalahari farm with a few parallel dunes transversing the property from south to north. However, the landscape is mostly flat covered with thousands of camelthorn trees. The vegetation can be described as open Kalahari savanna with the perennial Stipagrostis uniplumis (Blinkaargras) and the annual Schmidtia kalahariensis (Suurgras) the dominant grass species. Several highly nutritious shrubs compliment the grazing strata of the veldt, while witgat trees and bushes such as swarthaak, rosyntjie bush and Gabba bush are also present. Although the farm is currently used as a cattle farm, it is ideal for sheep farming as well. Only a few game species such as springbuck, oryx and kudu together with duiker, steenbok and warthog are roaming freely on the property. Jackal is the only predator in that area. The property is fenced in with a high fence and jackal proof on the borders. It is further subdivided with 39 stock proof camps for sound management of the grazing. The official carrying capacity of the land is 1 cattle unit (450 kg) to 18 ha. Water is in abundance and an allocation of 380 000m³/per annum has been issued on the property for irrigation purposes. Nine boreholes provide water for all farming operations, including the 15 ha (2 x 7,5 ha) centre pivot units where lucerne and other feed crops are produced for extra feed during droughts. The irrigation infrastructure is impressive with a huge square reservoir collecting water from several boreholes for distribution to the irrigation fields. The average rainfall is approximately 250 mm/annum. The entire farmstead is very impressive and creates an upmarket impression. There are two larger residences and five spacious self-catering chalets to accommodate guests and family. The garden is spacious with a large lawn and a lovely braai area nestled among karee trees. (Rhus lancea). There are large sheds as well as four excellent workers houses. There is a large farm abattoir, meat processing room and two walk-in cool rooms. Singel phase electricity, supplied by the national grid, is converted to 3 phase power supply complimented by a solar system.
